Help with song writing (how to, not ideas)?

I've been training as a classical musician since I was 7 but I'm trying to break out into the more modern pop style. I've always been inspired by those who can write music and want to write some for myself. I don't really need help with the initial concept, more like how to connect the dots and actually write it.
